MORDOVIA IS ONE OF TOP 30 REGIONS OF RUSSIA IN THE NATIONAL RATING OF INVESTMENT CLIMATE

The results of the National Rating of Investment Climate in Russian regions were announced during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2018 (SPIEF). The experts assessed regions by 44 indicators in 4 areas. As a result, the Republic of Mordovia is one of top 30 regions of Russia.

17 experts of the rating committee commended Mordovia in such areas as “Institutions for business” and “Infrastructure and resources”. “Regulatory environment” takes the next position and is followed by “Small business support”.

In spite of heated discussions on the methods of rating compiling, that took place before SPIEF, they did not change a lot. Like the previous years, ASI experts mostly interviewed entrepreneurs on their attitude to investment climate in the regions.

This year the Republic of Mordovia is 26th. In spite of the fact that it has lost 8 notches compared to 2017, the cumulative index is improved by 8.7 points (from 245.9 to 254.6).

All in all, the National rating triggered an enormous controversy between economists. First, the top of the rating has changed significantly. If to speak about the 2017 top 20, only Moscow and Ulyanovsk regions saved their positions. (the ninth and tenth). Tyumen region has become an absolute leader of the rating in 2018. Moscow is the second. The leader of 2017, the Tatar Republic, is the third now. Kaliningrad and Khabarovsk regions have the biggest progress. They improved their positions by 24 and 22 notches and now are 15th and 18th respectively.

The National rating is a joint project of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, and four Russian business unions.
